With years of experience working closely with military families and their children, Mr. Gardea is no stranger to the unique challenges and needs of this community. In addition to his liaison role, he also serves as the social studies and social-emotional learning teacher at HSE. Mr. Gardea brings a wealth of expertise to HSE, having graduated from UTEP and previously attended Harmony as an alumnus.

Duties of Campus-Based Military Liaison (CBML):

Serving as the point of contact and working collaboratively between military-connected students and their families and the campus.

• Maintaining familiarity with enrollment processes, records transfer, existing community resources, and student supports.
• Ensuring military-connected students are identified and properly coded through the Texas Student Data System Public Education Information Management System (TSDS PEIMS).
• Determining campus-based supports and services available to military-connected students based on their unique needs, including their high mobility.
• Assisting in coordinating campus-based programs relevant to military-connected students.
• Attending professional development or training annually to learn and understand topics related to the transition of military-connected students and their families.
• Providing professional development opportunities for staff & faculty to support military-connected students and their families better.

Registration: All eligible applications submitted by the application deadline are entered into the lottery, which is conducted per pre-approved guidelines. Students are selected based on pre-defined, Board-approved criteria such as sibling and staff priorities. Parents will be emailed if their child has been selected once the lottery is completed. If a child is not initially selected, they will be placed on a waitlist and offered a seat if vacancies become available. If you are interested, please apply here: (Website for HPS Registration)

•  Applicant’s name (first, last, and middle names)
• Applicant’s birth date
• Applicant’s current grade level and grade applied for
• Applicant’s residential address
• Phone numbers
• Applicant’s parents’ name and signature
• Whether the applicant has a sibling already admitted to attend the school

 Academic Placement:  Per the guidelines of the MIC3, students will be placed into the appropriate grade level based on their previous enrollment or educational assessment.
